A Few of My Favorite Things...

Laughter. Or laughing so hard with my kids - true belly laughs that tears are forming. It certainly beats the alternative of tears forming from being unable to get the creative juices flowing for a homework assignment. One silly thing lead to the next tonight (as is often the case) and to coax an assignment out of Tali, I pretend that I am a newspaper editor of the cigar chomping variety and Tali is a reporter who is not getting the assignment. Along comes Julian to totally save the day! He starts reporting on something as I scribble madly into my "notepad". I tell Tali that it is not unlike the movie, Being There where Chance becomes Chauncey and his predictions for his garden become an economic forecast. I never tire of this scene:

Not only does Julian get the job, but is ushered off to bed so that he can rest up for his next big assignment, without ever having to reveal his source. And as I said to Tali "get some rest kid, maybe that'll help you get the next big story."

Julian asks as I lead him in to bed, "What is this game?" to which I reply "We'll call it - reporter."

"I like that," he simply said.

Tali got the assignment done. We all laughed and I even got to post a little something. I'm a bit rusty and didn't know what to blog about, so nothing like the present.

End of story.

Mo'a, it is - isn't it? Yes, Julian's understatement made my heart melt just a little. :)

Tom & Icy, that's as nice a thing as anyone could say. Thank you and feel good!

Spooky!!! I've been trying to find you...well I wondered where you were (even my ten year old daughter asked after you). I'll be by shortly.

HA HA - 3 cheers for Gina who made up the perfect homework assignment :D I hadn't seen that scene for years - as soon as I saw Peter Sellers I knew what movie it was. I love to laugh like that... thanks.

That's a great game. And great memories

Your household sounds like the Cosby Show. Just don't take in your daughter's bastard child. It's all downhill from there.

Hey, does that come with Hungarian subtitle?

Laughter is power. No worry about creativity, it comes in time.

Jeff, somehow I cover that it's all about making it easier for me ;)

Terry, somehow I know you have a trick or two up your wing :) Isn't laughter great? And that movie is one of my faves.

Pia, I'll have to save this to pull out during "the difficult teen years" - you know, ammunition.

Jonah, riiight - good advice. Was that the jumping the shark for the Cosbys?

Ariel, I'll work on it. Of course, Scissors' Hungarian is not grammatically correct, but close. Yes the ebb and flow of creativity. I just purchased sketching pencils - I don't see the fact that I don't really draw should stop me.

Ah, the sweet age of ten, that's a transitional time when school work gets a little more serious. Way to go with the creative solution to the homework meltdown! My daughter did that too when she was that age. Luckily, she got past it. Hey, I caught her playing with dolls the other day (she's 12). I said nothing, but secretly was thrilled that there is still a bit of childhood left.

Actonbell, always good when you can combine fun and productivity I say! Glad you and TLP enjoyed the link - I thought of you both immediately.

TLP, your comment literally brought tears to my eyes yesterday, a day which found me feeling like I'd be the last in line for Mother of the Year award. So thanks.

Claire: my dearest Tali was just being a bit how shall I say - lazy. I have no idea where she got that trait :O That is sweet about the dolls - it warms a mother's heart.

Sounds fun. I need to see that movie again. With my kids, especially Toyplayer.
