SATURDAY SPIN

Well, we're back in the swing of things with music school for Tali so I'm getting this together tonight as there will be no time to spare in the morning.

The artist today is Sam Phillips who started her career in the early 80's as Leslie Phillips, a contemporary christian artist. She crossed over (no pun intended) in the late 80's and switched to her childhood nickname of Sam. I'd say the results are fine.

Although she does have an album out recently, the song below is 1994's I Need Love because I just love it. She was married to T Bone Burnett, a producer and musician of some acclaim himself, who gave her song, Sister Rosetta Goes Before Us to Robert Plant and Alison Krauss to record on their album that T Bone produced last year. It was beautifully done and you can listen to Sam's own version on MySpace. Anyway, bunch of links below if you want to muck about in your free time.

I love the weather this time of year in New York, being outdoors makes you tired in a good way - not the bedraggled worn out by humidity type of tired. Tali is attending a birthday party in Central Park this weekend for one of the kids in school. There will be a "well known naturalist" there to show the kids how to forage for berries and such. You never know, in these uncertain economic times, it might just come to that.

Whatever you do, have a great weekend!

Make sure Tali watches out for falling mortgage brokers. Those scaffolds we're building under them might be rickety.

Good song. Happy Saturday.

I've always wanted to see NYC and especially Central Park in person, but I sort of suspect that after going there it would just look like a big city and another park. That bridge which is in a lot of movies comes to mind when I think of it.

I'm a huge Frankenstein fan - both movies (young and old :) nice black and white video - she is a beauty.

My husband took me to Central Park - it was not what I imagined but just the same was quite beautiful. NY reminds me so much of him - a Hells Kitchen native with accent to match. I'm glad the days are cooling off a bit - fall is in the air.

Indeed Doug! Glad you enjoyed - hope you're having a happy one too.

Tom&Amp&Icy: I think it depends on how enamored you are of NYC. I find Central Park to be like no other place - with so many possibilities of what to do in one huge park. That's a classic Central Park landmark.

Terry, I'm not sure that I've ever seen the old one in its entirety. That should be remedied, but I am a fan of YOung Frankenstein. She is stunning.

It's funny how places mostly are not what we imagined them to be. What was your vision of Central Park before you saw it? Now I'm intrigued about your husband - how did you two meet? Is he Hell's Kitchen Irish native? Well, I've asked enough questions for a post :) I do love these days when Fall is in the air.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend folks!

Oh is it Brill? Or the purple man?
Can take me out of New York but.....

I'm poorer than I was at the beginning of last week but can afford a bigger house. Think that's the American way

I hate this kind of tired---makes me want to sleep my life away--give me humidity any day

Pia, your first guess was correct! Of course :) Welcome to America - enjoy your new home, whether you can afford it or not.

Actonbell, it was quite interesting. In the interest of fair and balances reporting, Tali did enjoy the playground antics after the tour more, but she still had fun during.

Heh, me too :)

How did we meet? HA!

It was at an AA meeting... and I was dressed in my softball clothes as there was a game afterward (AA teams of course...) He was 10 years older than I. Then at the game, he followed me and asked me if I wanted an ice cream from the ice cream man truck... I said no thank you because of course I didn't know him. Next think I know, he has bought ice creams for all 3 of my kids as they played in the park alongside the baseball diamond... sneaky guy, eh? Such a new yorker. He was German irish, dad was longshoreman with lots of family living in the same giant apartment complex. His auntie still lives on Broadway in the same apartment...He was quite a character.

Sorry I've been away for a bit... life is a time warp lately.
