GIMME A BREAK

Well, okay.

And just like that - I will be on vacation until sometime after Labor Day (the American holiday that signifies the end of summer). Tomorrow is my last day of work!

On Thursday, I will take the kids to one of the towns on the Jersey Shore to give them a slice of Mommy history. Actually, I always felt cheated that we went to beaches without boardwalks when I was younger. The one we will visit has a boardwalk and the kids can get the flavor of a day at the beach mixed with pizza, cotton candy and games of chance. Oh and throw in an amusement ride or two.

I think I'm more excited than them! It will be just a day trip. The beach is quite nice there, but it's the kitsch factor that is really drawing me to visit.

We'll then head out for our annual end of summer pilgrimage to Montauk which is fast becoming a fine family tradition a couple of days later.

I'll probably be on a blog-light schedule but I will try to get around and catch up with my faves who I've missed a bit of late.

I did visit my Mom this past weekend at my brother's house. She is recuperating quite well. I did talk her out of invading Iran. Her face has healed amazingly well and her arm is coming along nicely. I was teasing her that I was going to take a picture for my blog. "You're not putting me on your blog!" Sorry Mom, too late for that. But alright, no incriminating pictures.

Enjoy the rest of your summer.

'(the American holiday that signifies the end of summer)' = looks like a translation to me!

Boardwalk and no beach! Sounds like a swiz to me.

I know what you mean about being more excited about a project / visit than your children are!
BEst wishes and hope you manage to recharge the batteries.

My brother always liked the beaches with boardwalks best; I prefer the ones without.

Have lots of fun. Glad your Mom is doing well.

Summer? This is summer? I keep trying to put the heat on :) See Ann said that but she's in England

Think it will be warm when you're in Montauk

Say hello to the Jersey Shore--think I know that boardwalk--the ride gave it away :) and my favorite place on earth--Montauk

Say hello to the owner of the lodge with the best pancakes I have ever tasted--thanks to your recommendation. The owner who told me her life story--and her son's was pretty cool also

As to not blogging--don't even think about it

Though I know a great Internet cafe a few blocks from lodge with great pancakes/chatty owner.

Really glad your mom is doing better

Enjoy your vacation, G.

I've awarded you the Rockin' Blogger award at my other blog because that's the one that was awarded to me: http://thedailythree.blogspot.com/

Hope you are all rested up and relaxed when you get back. :)

Ann, I'm sort of talking myself into thinking we're having one right now too! It's been rainy and cold, but hope springs eternal!

Thanks - our mums are tough old birds ay? XOX

Pavel, Oh all right - twist my arm!

mcewen: Ooh you caught me in the midst of tranlsation (now see your translation would have worked beautifully there)! Cheeky ;)

I'm not sure what a swiz iz, but actually it is a beach and a boardwalk. Considering the weather may not be so beachy, we can always stroll the boards and visit an aquarium.

Thanks for the visit!

Goldennib, actually I do prefer without, but this is a one day nostalgia trip. We grew up going to Long Beach Island so it was pretty much just beach (back then anyway). And thanks for all of your wellwishes.

Pia, crazy isn't it? I know it seems sort of fitting for England but come on.

Well if it's not at least warm, let it not rain. Although just being in Montauk is great to me. It is fast becoming The Lampshade Family's favorite place on earth too.

I'm having a Pavlovian response to the mention of the pancake place. Ummmmm. Ooh where is that cafe? I'll drop you an email before we go - don't leave until Sunday.

thanks for all your sweet words.

Night all.

Sounds like lots of fun. Use sunscreen!!! I once took the kids to the Oregon Coast, stopped a touristy trap and had oodles of fun. Fudge, a carousel, and an aquarium.
Have a good time and the kids will have lots of great memories.

of course if more little old ladies had enlisted we'd have been out of iran three years ago. bin laden would be sitting in solitary weeping, forced to look at slides of everyones yellowstone vacation.

Hope you have a great time, and that the weather is better there than it is here. Glad to hear that your mom is doing well -I guess the Iranians have lucked out for now. I'll put on the coffee for when you get back.

Your trip won't be complete without cotton candy and a ride on the rollercoaster... I'd grab a hotdog too but that's just me. (Mystery meat you know...)

Hugs to your mom.

Whew, close call for Iran, nice job, G. Glad you are going to get some vaca time, whenever I hear Montouk it makes me think of that Jim Carrey movie, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind I think it is. Anyway, have more fun there than he did, ok?
Kitcsh is classic if you give it long enough!

Hi g, I'm glad to hear your mom is on the mend. That must have been a scary experience. But, like you said, women that have that many kids and live that many years are tough enough to put the Marines to shame.

take care and enjoy the rest of your break!
