Hi Ho Hi Ho...

That's right - it's back to work. No, I'm not in construction. This is just what I will brandish if anyone actually expects me to work today.

Now in the vein of the great and talented
VILLAGE IDIOT, why don't you drop by and leave your favorite Work Song to inspire me throughout my first day back at the grind.

Have a wonderful day all!

ADDENDUM 9/13/06: No post, so just keep adding your songs or whatever you like...just remember I still have the big wrench here (which I just noticed looks like a big industrial G). That's me - always observing the obvious two days later.

Oh G, I hope that you have a good day at work and don't have to beat anyone with that g-normous wrench. :)

"Workin' in a coal mine, goin' down, down, down" That's one of my favs. Or "Chain Gang" there's another good one. Hope your first day back is good!

Lolololol!!! I like that attitude, G :-) Grrrrrrrrrr! Err...is this the oft-mentioned procrastinating DNA you fear you've passed on to Tali and Julian?

Happy Back-to-Grindstone Day xo

cj: Thank you and so far I haven't even had to glare or grunt at anybody yet. All in all - a good day!

doug: can you give me a few more bars?

brian: It's all an illusion, Brian.

Pinky! That's the song that was going through my head when I put this post up - Lord I am so tired, how long can this go on? Workin' in a coal mine... Thank you my friend.

GG: The best offense when you procrastinate is a good defense or wrench in this case! Hahahaha. Thank you girl.

Have a good day yourselves!

Okay, my song comes from the Musical "Les Miserables."

[PRISONERS]
Look down, look down
Don't look 'em in the eye
Look down, look down,
You're here until you die

[CONVICT ONE]
The sun is strong
It's hot as hell below

[PRISONER]
Look down, look down,
There's twenty years to go

now i know why noreen always acts so weird when i see her. *and* why she tries so damn hard to please you. i didn't notice that wrench you keep under you desk, NBFF... but clearly it's an effective office tool. wonder if it might work on errant children...(mine, that is, not yours)

okay, here's a slice of my "work song" offering (Car Wash):

Ooh ooh
You might not ever get rich
But let me tell ya it's better than diggin' a ditch
There ain't no tellin' who you might meet
A movie star or maybe even an Indian chief
(Workin')
At the car wash
Workin' at the car wash, girl
Come on and sing it with me
(Car wash)
Sing it with the feelin' ya'all
(Car wash, girl)

Ooh!

Some of the work gets kinda hard
This ain't no place to be if you planned on bein' a star
Let me tell you it's always cool
And the boss don't mind sometimes if you act the fool

that's right... we be workin' at the Car Wash, girlfriend. oooh. oooh. oooh. xox

Pavelonymous: Love LesMiz - thanks for the reminder! It also reminds me of a period when the cd from the show was in heavy rotation and Julian singing it - he looked like a little waif from the show. All he needed was some tattered clothing and a smudged up face.

Neva: The secret weapon is in the drawer and I ain't afraid to use it.

I LOVE Car Wash!!!

Get your car washed today...
fill up and you don't have to payay! Leave it to you girl.

Brian: Ooh I have a lot of catching up to do. Don't worry, I'm a fast reader. Back to the illussion...

c*clears throat*

"Up in the morning,
Out on a job
Work like the devil for my pay.
And that lucky old sun
Ain't got nothing to do
But just roll around heaven
all day.

I fussed with my woman
Tore with my kids
Sweat til I'm wrinkled and gray
And the lucky old sun
Ain't got nothing to do
But just roll around heaven
all day"

I just noticed the extraordinary coolness at the bottom of your blog. Don't hide your light under a bushel.

FN: Classic! Sure to get the volume cranked if I'm in the car.

Get a second hand guitar,
chances are you'll go far
if you get in with the
right bunch of fellows

Doug: Name that tune!

You likey? You're the first one to notice. I've got to figure a place to put it more prominently (as everytime you refersh, it generates a new sign). I got that from our resident techie - PAVEL. He has the neatest things at his place

G said...

Doug - BTW, not name the BTO tune, but yours.

Thanks for stopping by today...Since I've been in a car for 12 hours, I think my song has to be "Crazy" - Gnarls Barkley...
Hope to be home tomorrow and start taking care of my blog friends again.

Work is a four letter word...
brian took my song choice lol

oh i saw the sign at the bottom, too... i didn't say anything because i just thought it was at the bottom of an older post. but it *is* very cool and you should definitely get it into your sidebar or some such place. (just sayin'...)

ps... 2 (count 'em 2) good work songs from that magical 1937 classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: "Whistle While You Work" and "Heigh Ho" (i'll say nothing about tall hookers, here). just thought i'd toss 'em into the musical mix for no good reason. xox

G said...

Brian: Sorry, but someone may allude to something in their comment about the current installment (which I still need to catch up on the last three) and then all bets are off!

Swampwitch - My pleasure - the air is very clean in Colorado :) Eeh 12 hours in the car, I'm thinking The Ramones, I Wanna Be Sedated! Safe trip.

DB: Indeed it is! Grrr! Ah yes, Johnny Paycheck lives on in our heads every day...

Nevala! Of course you did, and then saw something shiney! It would be cool somewhere...well that might be a nice mitzvah (good deed) for you to help me figure out placement in this here blog :)

Ah 1937 - it was a very good year! Not a word - shhh - do I need to start explaining "hookers"? For "no good reason" is the best reason.

Have a great day all!

oh that is a wrench, I thought you were offereing to change my tires!
Songs at work?
I donæt sing at work, there are enough voice sin my head as it is :)

G said...

Brian - Let it be known it was not a violin string as I am really not prone toward...violens. hahaha

What can I tell you my brilliant little touches are quite by accident. Another song!

Minka: I haven't staged a musical at my desk - yet. Although that gives me an idea...

how about charlie baltimore, she works hard for the money

Uh uh uh uh
She works hard for the money
So hard for it honey
She works hard for the money
And you better treat her right

... maybe thats referring to the wrong line of work, but the message is inspiring

G said...

Well this is a first! Don't want to make too big a deal and scare you away, but hey everybody! It's my niece Caitlin!

See when the younguns drop in, I'm about to be educated. I know that as Donna Summers so apparently Charlie has found her fit to be sampled?

Inspiring indeed!

9 to 5, Dolly Parton!
I identify with the part where she pours herself 'a cup of ambition.'

i am not afraid, ive been looking for a new online hobby, and im running out of muffin movies, so i think your blog is it!!!

CindyCinlou said...

I've been work'n on the rail road! LOL! Thanks for commenting on my blog.

G said...

FN: Well if anyone can talk about pouring cups, it's Dolly.

Caitlin: Well with your colorful turn of phrase, it can't be long until we get you up and running with a blog of your own. We're working on one for Tali (look in the profile or whatever that lists the blogs) which I think you might like her first entry. We just need to fine tune and get it set up with her instead of me as the writer...details details.

SOG: ll the livelong day. Classic folk songs, just love em. Thanks for stopping by.

Ok, I'm home, my derrier,no, derreierre, no...I can't spell it... ok, my butt is flat if that's possible from being in the car for 12 hours and on the plane for another 6..hopefully, tomorrow I can spend some time here and make an effort to post something that makes sense.

Swampwitch - First things first - get some rest! Then come on over and I'll have the coffee brewing. Welcome home.

I like to sing Gilbert & Sullivan. Things like this:
When Wellington thrashed Bonaparte,
As every child can tell,
The House of Peers throughout the war
Did nothing in particular,
And did it very well.

G said...

Weirsdo - Of course you do! That was excellent, I only wish I knew the tune so I'll just make one up in my head.

Ah for the days of the House of Peers.
