Enough of the tawdry...

...onto the pretty things.

It's right there in my profile - I love to pore over home design mags, articles, now blogs. If I keep going, my kids will raise themselves. Now, now, they're in bed and I'm stealing a little time for myself. Scissors has his Sunday night tv going so this is my time to veg a bit.

So now that we've discussed the upside of anger and the downside of home renovations, it's time to just appreciate the aesthetics - decorating and design. I could get lost in these sites as I do my magazines which then have nifty places for me to check out. One thing usually leads to the next and before you can say toile, I'm browsing little sugar spoons in Denmark that I must have.

We all have our soft spots or obsessions and so it is with a nifty blog that I have found called DESIGN SPONGE. They sort of find the best things in design and bring them to us everyday folks to drool over. I just found this site a couple of weeks ago, but coincidentally today (that's what they said last week, not up yet) they are unveiling a new design/layout and we all get to go browsing together!

Meet me for coffee first. Oh, and don't forget your tape measure.

UPDATE: Here's a picture above of the lovely spoon that I was pining away for. Did I say Denmark? Well, it was actually Holland, but another home of fine designs. Click on the link below to check it out for yourselves.

OH! I love design books, mags, sites, ad nauseum....

That's all I feel like I have been doing for the past month. BUT, my house will look awesome when it's done. A little bit of Pottery Barn, a little bit of West Elm and a whole lot of Pinky!

HUGS and much love to you!

I will be in Denmark in May....tell me more about the little spoons. They have great design over there.
Now you have done it.....did I not have too many bloggs already...well into the favorites it goes.
I feel like my head is just above water now....I have not even made it to WA yet. I go alphabetically you know.....started two hours ago.
Tomorrow I start from the bottom.

Pinky: That's right, you're getting your "other" house ready. It's exciting and seeing the transformations are exciting. West Elm has some really neat things and well, you can't go wrong in Pottery Barn. I'll look forward to seeing pictures. xox to you too.

Neva: Now first and foremost, I've seen your house and love it!!! So stop right there. Oh yes, many pretty things, I'll try to steer anything worthwhile your way. When I'm not busy following the links that is. As I mentioned to Joel below, there were some dog portraits that I came across somewhere and thought of you guys. xox

Joel: Please don't be insulted by the phrase, typical guy. Come to think of it, they or somewhere else had lovely dog portraits. I'll have to dig that out! See something for everyone.

Mo'a! I will have to backtrack for them - I do so love their design. You have me cracking up over here, it's not easy I know. But I went easy, this is just one - limit it to maybe once a week peek.

Master Tom said he's going to dip me in a bucket of paint and roll me over the walls.

Design, huh?

G said...

Icy: That Master Tom! Although it would have an interesting effect with that tail of yours, but still it would be pretty hard to clean you up.

Doug, Come on now - as I mentioned something for everyone. Why look at Tom's creative use of Icy!

I go in spurts with that sort of thing. But there are some awfully nice things there, hmmmmm

That sounds great.
Design, if in accordance with my taste- is somethign I could loose myself in :)

spoons from Denmark...just let me know, we used to be subject to those people a while back and well danish designs and influences are huge around here ;)

now this is something I didn't know about you. interesting!

Logo: Well of course with Mr. Logo whipping up his own custom furniture - who needs these sites ay? There are, it doesn't hurt to look.

Minka: Did I say Denmark because I found them and they are most certainly from Holland! I've now posted the picture - duh, should have done that originally. But you are too kind!

Kyahgirl: Can't put all my cards on the table at once girl. You've got perfume, I've got tear out sheets from magazines.

In a recurring nightmare, Doug and Hildy from "Trading Spaces" coat me with Elmer's glue and cover me all over with hay.

Nice spoon!

Actonbell, Maybe that's why I love to pore over these sort of things - enough of the ugly every day.

You are welcome. It was a perfect review and as you said, the cat's out of the bag already.

Goldennib: Yes, that's it - just makes you feel good. You get the Simply Said award for the day :)

Mo'a: Ooh, now that could be another angle for you to bring to us - dolls from different parts of the world! You're nothing if not methodical :) Hope all is well with your Mom.

Al, Haha, I could see where you would be having that - what they did to those poor walls!! Isn't it?

G said...

Swampy! I just missed you in there. Well see, now you'd have a lovely spoon to catch it.

that's some spoon. and i mean that in the good way (come to think of it, what other way *could* i mean that?) uh... does it really cost 16,500 euros, or is that a typo? (i'm thinkin' typo... i mean, it's a beautiful spoon 'n all, but 16,500 euros??) xox

Al: i saw that episode, i've had that nightmare, too. *shudders*

G said...

Well if my mind were left to wander, I could think of bad ways, but I know your intentions are always pure as the coal bin.

Ah, those crazy euros - that's their way of saying 23 bucks, more or less. I think it's a good psychological sell - first you BALK at 16,500 then say, oh 23 bucks, I'll take 10!

I remember those feathered walls and all I could imagine, come to think of it, was SNEEZE.

Beautiful stuff indeed. But I must save for the Weirsdo invasion of Paris.
Thanks for the Barbie updates.

Delightful post G!

And as far as this "One thing usually leads to the next and before you can say toile, I'm browsing little sugar spoons in Denmark that I must have."

No one is immune. They may say they are, but they're lying. Someone take away my credit card. Or my internet service. Please! :)

G said...

Weirsdo: Wow - now that's something worth saving for!

Pia: Somehow I'm not surprised - fellow Cancerian and all that.

Dan, You're good for the soul. Now about that credit card of yours, I think I can help you. :)

Ohh, it is such a beautiful, lovely, shiny and sparkly (in honor of today's WA guest) spoon!! Pretty, shiny, sparkly things...who can resist?

I get Denmark and Holland mixed up too, and I'm Dutch. Or was it Danish? Man, I'm hungry for pastry. If I wasn't so cheap I'd go buy one.

Oh, and I will spoon with you! Love it. Where do we meet for coffee? And do you subscribe to "Dwell" as well?

Minka said...

hey, that spoon picture is new. I have to admit, that I am not very partial to spoons, but that sure is a lovely piece of cutlery :)

G said...

Squaregirl: That's my thing - who can resist?

Diesel: Terribly confusing. Now I could go for a Danish too! Dutch treat?

Cindra: Come spoon girl. Don't you love it? Ooh Dwell, I've heard of it but I don't get it and now that I've checked it out, I may have to! It's great.

Monika, Yes I was inspired by you and Mo'a to go dig it up to show you. I didn't know I was either until I saw it. :)
