HAPPY CHANUKAH

Tonight marked the start of Chanukah, the Festival of Lights. It's a joyous, fun and fattening holiday celebrated with anything drenched in oil. Um ummmm. Latkes, soufganyot (jelly donuts), and pretty much more of the same.

So Happy Chanukah and enjoy!

I've done a couple of posts over at Central Snark which explore the proper spelling of Chanukah and a little rap about playing dreidl. Do stop by, it gets lonely and I end up eating all of the gelt myself.

Good call, Ariel. Hey, Louie needs a latke!

Actonbell, I have trouble pronouncing "Chosen."

Ariel, thanks - he got a new toy.

Actonbell, thanks. Haha, a common error. Today's post in The Snark may help.

Doug, of course he does. Doug, hint - the same :)

Dang I've got to brush up onmy Yiddish. What is gelt? I'm SO out of the know.

On my way to Snark: I hope it's about you and Adam Sandler...Happy Chanukah - and may all your oil never run out :)

PS: I enjoyed my very first latkes ever last month... now I understand what all the fuss is about. Yum!

Is gelt that rubbery fishy stuff that I always see in the Jewish food section of the grocery? It's not something I want to hand out to my reading students is it? Um, I distracted myself...
Happy Chanukah!

Happy Happy Chanukah, NBFF! sorry to arrive so late to this party -- did you save any soufganyot for me? (a word, by the way, i have significantly MORE trouble pronouncing that Chanukah!)

your post in the Snark was nothing short of BRILLIANT, by the way! i'm STILL dancing to the happy music provided by the LeeVees (sooooooo much fun!) : ) xox

Pia, that's the biggest part, so you're good.

Terry, they're good aren't they? We also make sweet potato/zuccini latkes which are delish!

Gelt is yiddish for money and in this case, the chocolate coins used in games of dreidl (or what the heck, jsut eaten) during Chanukah.

Claire, I am so laughing at your comment! Nooo, that's GEFILTE FISH (which reminds me of some funny little video that Tali loves). I cannot get my kids to eat the stuff which I attribute to their partial Goyish ancestry :)

Read above to Terry - it is indeed exactly what you want to (and do) give out to your students! Now stock up.

Neva, the party's on all week long! Plenty of soufganyot (prounounced soof-gon-yote, accent on last syllable) - dig in. Although Scissors' homemade batch not so good (don't tell him), which saves me significantly on the caloric intake.

Glad you liked the LeeVees. Their whole Chanukah album is quite fun. XOX

Pavel, thanks! Have some a ch-ch-ch-chocolate coin.
