Cut!!!G!Cut!!!

To the tune of my Saturday Spin, I approach a large styrofoam ball which needs to be cut in half in order to show the core of our lovely planet Earth that Tali needs for a Science project.

Of course, I don't do anything without consulting the modern day version of a Ouija board, Google, to ask "How does one cut a styrofoam ball in half without it crumbling into styrodust?"

Scissors is in bed already so I approach the ball gingerly as some of the advice includes saws of various stripes - none of which I'm willing to go digging for out in the garage at 10:45 pm. With necessity and desperation - mother and father of invention guiding me, I get out several knives and start cutting. The serrated one seals the deal and Tali now has a clean core to paint tomorrow after school.

My shoulder now feels the strain from all the demands my brain just placed on it "Don't come away from the counter until you have two halves to show for yourself."

Okay I have to go put some ointment on my shoulder and get to bed.

If that didn't work I was going to consult these guys*:

Here's to a good start to what looks like a soggy week in NYC. Hope the sun is shining where you are.

*Promo for the new album by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds (for those who didn't see my Saturday Spin). What can I tell you? Nothing like low budget acting to crack me up.

It really makes you feel good to figure out something or how to do something on your own. Those creative juices are intoxicating.

There's nothing like the sense of accomplishment of having two hemispheres where once there was just a single globe.

What can I tell you guys? I felt like I was on top of the world when it didn't crumble :)

And between it. By the way, I think I'm a little addicted to Dig, Lazarus, Dig. I've played it half a dozen times and I'm thinking I'll buy the CD. Thanks!

G, I am impressed with your knives. You must have very good knives. :-) Funny promo!

Hey, I think those dig guys were genuine!

Congrats on your accompliment!

Doug, and between it - haha.

You're very welcome. I think I'm a little addicted as well. Give me a review if you pick it up.

Ariel, oddly enough, we were just complaining we need new knives. I'll get the most out of these - I'm off to chop a tree down.

I love this promo :)

Pavel, me too. Thanks - the painted version heads in to school tomorrow.

I think an exacto knife works well. Mall Diva used modeling clay for her Earth model.

you're a good mama... those were the sort of things I used to let their daddy do; I can't even cut or draw a straight line. Hope she appreciated it and appreciates what a great mother you are

Priceless video - but what exactly is that... a ghostly flying soccer "basket" ball?

I remember making those styrofoam "planet" balls my own self for 8th grade summer school science. It was grand, and also my favorite class. I didn't cut anything up though... Gina your skills at "science" demo are enviable. I think you should post a picture of the finished project.

Weirsdo, I think this ball was just too big a job for my small exacto. I had thought of clay but then we got on to styrofoam and painting cores and so it went.

Ann, of course she doesn't! She's ten, but it doesn't stop me from reminding her :) We all do our part.

Actonbell, desperation forces me into strange positions!

It's been a cranky week, let's hope for a nice long weekend :)

Terry, hahaha - Tali and I were having that same discussion!

Me too which is why I guess we gravitated towards styrofoam again. I'm finding that many of these subjects I'm enjoying now in a belated fashion so there's that.

I answered you in the post above - I'll have to post a pic when it comes home. In my haste to get Tali out the door and onto the school bus, I didn't get a picture.

I enjoyed the video. We just finished reading a very funny novel, QUEEN LUCIA, in which a certain Princess Popoffski plays a role as a medium.

I did too. That sounds like a good one - maybe Tali would enjoy that.
